Help us install a mural on the southwest corner of Park Central Square from 1-6PM.
Better Block Brigade- Ongoing
Join the Better Block Brigade and help Better Block SGF keep the chairs and the tables in the Square! This volunteer opportunity will require either setting up or taking down the tables and chairs once a week.
What is Activate the Square?
Activate the Square is a public space activation initiative to help support positive activity in the heart of downtown Springfield. Better Block SGF has partnered with the Downtown Springfield Association to place various art installations, outdoor furniture, games, and pop-up vendors to encourage the community to utilize downtown’s historic gathering space throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. Join us as we re-imagine Park Central Square!

Originally designed by Architect Lawrence Halprin, the Square was intended to be "an active space for public assembly, devoted to pedestrians and their needs and comforts.” Updates and renovations were completed in 2008 to restore the historic public space, however, the space has yet to fulfill it’s intended purpose as the heart of commerce and social gathering hub of downtown.
